At Plains Removals we know it can be a stressful time when you're moving house but it doesn't have to be.
Relocating can be a daunting experience, one that can be expensive, time-consuming and hard on your body. However, using a local or interstate removalist can actually save you time, money and keep the stress away.
The best way to ensure that your move goes smoothly is to prepare ahead of time. Here are some tips to help you make your move as easy as possible.
Moving Do's:
- Get quotes from multiple removalists.
- Make sure your removalist has insurance, and that you're aware of what's covered in their policy. For example, if any of your furniture gets damaged or broken during the move, will they replace it? Will they reimburse you for any damage?
- Ask for written quotes from all removalists so you know exactly what each one is charging and what's included in each quote.
- Get organised. Start packing early, and don't forget about the little stuff (like your spices).
- If you have valuables and items you may need right away, bring them with you. Personal documents and passports, jewellery, cash, and items not covered by moving insurance should be transported by yourself. You should also have a clearly labelled box of necessities that you can reach for at any time.
This box should include things like water bottles, nutrition bars, torches, batteries, medication and first aid supplies. - Ask for help! It's hard to pack everything by yourself, so ask friends and family to lend a hand.
Moving Don’ts:
- Don't get up too early. Moving is a lot of work, and you're going to need all the rest you can get so you are physically and mentally rested.
- Don't pack too much stuff in one box. If you have a lot of items and not enough boxes, use old newspapers or plastic bags to wrap things individually. This will help protect them from getting damaged during transit.
- Don't forget about the small stuff (like your toothbrush). You won't want to spend time hunting for something that's important but not essential when you're trying to get settled in at your new place.
- Try not to have small children or pets in the way of removalists. Your Removalists will have a plan for moving your goods, and they don't want to get hurt or damage any items.
